Jack Collison targets late run for West Ham

West Ham United midfielder Jack Collison has urged his teammates to put a run together to insure their survival and to build on next season.

The Hammers have won just four of the last 14 matches, and face a resilient Wigan Athletic in-between games against both Manchester clubs.

The Irons picked up a well-deserved point at Anfield on Sunday, but with inconsistent results all season and games to come against clubs battling to stay up, West Ham need to put a run together.

Sam Allardyce's team remain just six points off 18th place and face in-form Southampton at St Mary's this weekend, with Andy Carroll likely to return having missed the game at Anfield due to loan circumstances.

Collison echoed these sentiments on the club website after Sunday's stalemate against Liverpool on Merseyside.

"We want to go on a little run now and try and stay unbeaten until the end of the season," he said.

The Hammers are level on points with Southampton so a win is vital for both sides, but Collison is clearly not feeling the pressure and is only looking up the table.

"A top-half finish is very possible. If we concentrate on ourselves, take each game as it comes and get some more points on the board then we can do it. Were not looking behind us," he added.

After the next four matches, West Ham face Newcastle United and then Everton. If they don't beat Wigan or get points against either Manchester United or Manchester City then pressure could build immensely in the last month of the season as the race to avoid the drop comes to a climax.

Collison however remains determined to strike fear into those around his side.

"We want a strong finish to really send out a message to everyone, prove that we're here and we're a force to be reckoned with," he concluded.

With the Olympic Stadium deal in place, West Ham simply must remain a Premier League club, or plans for their future development could suffer dramatically.
