Lionel Messi, Robin Van Persie, Radamel Falcao – three of the biggest names in world football who are NOT on the list of players to score the fastest hat-tricks in European football this season.

Indeed, of the top ten from the 2012/13 season so far, only two come from players whose teams lead their respective league tables (in the top five divisions).

And, quite interestingly, two of the top ten come from games last weekend, with Cesc Fabregas and German Denis producing the goods for Barcelona and Atalanta respectively.

But, neither can topple one of the game’s living legends, whose treble came in 10 minutes earlier in the campaign.

Before we start, let’s also mention notable absences from the list. Falcao has scored five goals in a game this season, whilst Luis Suarez is the only player to net a complete hat-trick from outside the box.

Cristiano Ronaldo has three of the 37 hat-tricks from Europe’s top five divisions, whilst Edinson Cavani, Messi, Falcao and Suarez have two apiece.
