The 2012/13 season has been a real show-stopper in terms on entertainment, proving to the world why the Premier League is the best around.

At the heart of every team there are forgotten players - the goalkeepers. The ones who are criticised more than praised, and here are my top five:

David de Gea | Manchester United

Since David de Gea signed from Atletico Madrid in June 2011 he has come in for a lot of criticism. However, this season he has shown to be an outstanding shot-stopper, with an eye for a spectacular save and an impressive amount of experience for such a young goalkeeper.

Although, prone to crosses and shots from outside the box and lacking the physicality and dominance De Gea is improving between the sticks at Old Trafford.

Hugo Lloris | Tottenham

In his first season in the Premier League Lloris has impressed - taking the first team spot from Brad Friedel was no easy challenge. He possesses lightning fast reflexes and excellent decision making, commands his box extremely well and is also a formidable opponent in one-on-one situations.

Despite being 6' 2'', Lloris still needs to work on his physical presence and his lack of experience on the biggest stage can be an issue.

Petr Cech | Chelsea

Since signing in 2004 Chelsea have got their money’s worth from Petr Cech. One of the most consistent goalkeepers in world football, picking up the Golden Glove award in his first season with Chelsea.

Cech regularly produces world class saves, most recent against Manchester United, Javi Hernandez close range header well tipped over.

Since his head injury he is often suspect when coming out to claim crosses, perhaps a knock-on effect that has affected his confidence when coming out to claim among bodies.

Joe Hart | Manchester City

Manchester City got Joe hart at a bargain from Shrewsbury, since then developing to one of the best keepers in Europe. Hart is a young, energetic goalkeeper who is fearless when it comes to decision making.

Hart has conceded the fewest goals in the league this season, however whilst showing promising signs to go on and be one of the best, his decision making still needs time to develop, and at times he tends to lose concentration.

Asmir Begovic | Stoke

Since joining Stoke Begovic has improved in game after game firmly placing him as Stoke's first choice keeper. An all rounded goalkeeper with intelligent decision making, an excellent shot stopper.

Begovic has a great dominance of his box and physical presence making a number of key saves for Stoke. Still needs to work on his  concentration, from time to time it can lapse, but can be one of the best in the Premier League.
