Top five: Premier League's foxes in the box (1)

The race for the Premier League's golden boot remains an open field as the season enters into its business end, with five goals separating the top four goalscorers in the division at present.

Robin van Persie had looked as though he would streak to glory and claim the crown for the second successive season, but an incomprehensible goal drought has seen the Manchester United striker relinquish his place at the top of the rankings to Luis Suarez.

Van Persie had found the net 19 times for Manchester United in the Premier League by early February, but has not done so since, and has shot a blank for the leaders in his past 10 games in all competitions.

Suarez this term, however, has been able to bring goalscoring consistency into his game, and the Liverpool forward could be rewarded for his endeavours with the golden boot come the end of the campaign.

The Uruguayan currently has 22 successes to his name, three more than Van Persie, and five ahead of the players in tied third position; Tottenham star Gareth Bale and Michu of Swansea.

Bale is the odds on favourite to be voted the Premier League's player of the season, and could make it an awards double if he can add to his tally of 17 and surpass Suarez and Van Persie come May.

Michu, meanwhile, has been the undoubted signing of the last summer transfer window, repaying his £2 million transfer and then some, having netted 17 times for Swansea during his maiden campaign in English football.

Demba Ba had been keeping pace with Suarez, Van Persie, Bale and Michu, but the Chelsea forward has dropped off since his transfer to Stamford Bridge, with the Senegalese now seven goals shy with the leader of the scoring charts.

Ba has scored only twice times since his January transfer from Newcastle to Chelsea, having initially registered 13 goals for the Toon before the end of 2012.

Given their goalscoring exploits this term, each of these five players can rightly be labeled a 'fox in the box', but GMF was intrigued to find out which of them has converted the most chances in the penalty area in 2012/13.

Has Suarez been the most cunning? Is Van Persie the biggest irritant in the area? Or has Michu the Swan the greatest fox of them all? Click through the tabs above and below to find out...
