Tottenham boss believes Adebayor can fire the team into Europa semis.
Tottenham news: Andre Villas-Boas backs Emmanuel Adebayor to lead Spurs into the last four
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas believes striker Emmanuel Adebayor can be the key man to help his side progress to the semi-finals of the Europa League.
The London club face a tough task as they battle to seal a place in the semi-finals, after being held to a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their quarter-final tie against FC Basel at White Hart Lane last week.
With that in mind Villas-Boas has backed out of sorts Adebayor to find his top form and help fire Spurs past the Swiss club.
The Togolese striker, who scored his first Premier League goal in more than three months against Everton on Sunday, has had a disappointing season so far since completing a permanent switch from Manchester City last summer.
And with only six goals in 28 appearances so far this season some Spurs fans have criticised the 29-year-old's contribution, however his manager is expecting him to now kick on for the rest of the season and help the side achieve both league and cup success.
"Adebayor has got back in the goals in our recent games and he has shown how influential he can be," Villas-Boas said in his pre-match press briefing in Switzerland, according to ESPN.
"He is driven by his last performance and he is doing extremely well. He is really enjoying his football. Finding the back of the net allows him to go into the game with more confidence and I always think it's self-belief from the player, rather than anything else that helps them improve.
"His link-up play has improved tremendously. He's been much more involved in the build of play and assisted and created so much, allowing others to flourish."
Also with star men Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon missing for Spurs, Villas-Boas will be looking to Adebayor and others to come forward and show that they are more than capable of producing the goods for the team.
