Promising young Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic will eventually prove to be a better player than Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic.
The young Serbian has won many plaudits since being given his chance by Citizens boss Roberto Mancini after signing in the summer.
European football legend Kevin Keegan has been so impressed by the 20-year-old that he feels he is on route to surpass his compatriot at Old Trafford.
It was high praise for Nastasic by Keegan as the former England manager credited Manchester United’s captain as probably the best in the business in the Premier League.
“I really like him; he has come in and played as if he has been there for ever,” Keegan is quoted as saying in The Independent.
"That Mancini put him in for his debut against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu tells you everything you need to know about him.
"In five or six years time you could see him developing into a Vidic. He could become even bigger than Vidic, who has probably been the best centre half in this country for the last five or six years.”
Mancini brought Nastasic to Manchester City in in a £12million deal from Serie A side Fiorentina last summer that saw Stefan Savic go the other way.
Nastasic took his opportunity with both hands when given his first start in the Champions League match away at Real Madrid.
He has since cemented his place in the starting XI at the expense of England international Joleon Lescott.
However, Keegan believes it won’t always be as easy as it has looked for the young centre-back, but wouldn’t be surprised if he overcame any difficulties quickly.
The big test will come next season when people have had a good look at him,” added the two time Ballon d’Or winner.
“They will try and find out what he is not good at and where his weaknesses are. I haven't seen too many at the moment."
