Arsenal are being linked with a summer move for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to reports.
The Daily Express cite reports in Italy when claiming that the Gunners are ready to ‘step-up’ their interest in the Belgian international stopper.
Mignolet was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window, before his agent played down speculation over a Premier League switch.
However, manager Arsene Wenger will have money to spend in the summer, according to the paper, and is pursuing a keeper with Iker Casillas also on the club’s shortlist.
Whilst the Real Madrid star has unparalleled experience on the European and international stage, Mignolet has impressed in the English top flight at the Britannia Stadium.
And, with a £5.5million valuation, he would certainly represent a cheaper option for the Arsenal hierarchy.
Mignolet would provide competition to Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski if he were to join the Gunners, and the No.1 jersey is certainly still up for grabs next term in north London.
