The dust is slowly starting to settle on four excellent Champions League quarter-finals, and we now have our four semi-finalists confirmed.

Borussia Dortmund somehow managed to turn things around in their tie against Malaga, before Real Madrid nervously edged their way to the final four at the expense of Galatasary.

Bayern Munich asserted their authority over Juventus as the Bavarian giants cruised to a 4-0 aggregate win - and then finally Barcelona overcame Paris-Saint Germain on away goals at the Camp Nou.

Amidst all the fervour surrounding these games, one thing that stuck out quite noticeably - despite not necessarily gaining the upper hand tactically in the majority of the ties, the teams that went through were the ones who could boast individual talents capable of changing games.

Barcelona, for example, were on the verge of going out until Lionel Messi emerged from the bench, while without Cristiano Ronaldo's goals Real Madrid may have succumbed to Galatasaray's late charge.

As Michael Cox of ZonalMarking.net put it: "PSG, Galatasaray, Malaga all very impressive tactically despite elimination. But can't compete with impact of Ronaldo, Messi..and Santana"

Whilst being slightly tongue in cheek, it is interesting to see how the big-name players step up and take a firm grip when it really matters.

Here at GMF we've managed to unearth a few statistics that show just how frequently the biggest players have an impact on Champions League fixtures. By taking a look at the goals and assists each player has produced in their Champions League career we can see just who are the biggest game-changers.
