Dean Saunders believes his Wolves side has what it takes to escape the drop and stay in the Championship.

Wolves go into a colossal game against fellow strugglers Huddersfield on Saturday with six key players out for the rest of the season, most notably Bakary Sako and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake.

Wolves are currently in 20th place, lingering perilously near the bottom three. Huddersfield lie level on points in 21st place with only goal difference separating the two sides.

Wolves have won four out of their last six games that is a great improvement in form, after their disastrous form prior to the improved run.

Saunders is convinced his players have what it takes to escape the drop after proving what they are made of during their improved run.

He told the Express & Star: "Everything seems to have gone against us, but that makes you stronger as a group.

“You either feel sorry for yourself and think ‘everything’s going against us’ or these things unite us and we get more of a siege mentality.

“I have told them ‘we have lost some key players, but we have got a squad good enough to cope with that - some of the other teams haven’t.’

“A lot of the other teams around us haven’t got the squad to cope with the problems.

“Our players have all done well for other clubs in the past and they’ve got the character.

“When it’s been needed - against Bristol City when we were 1-0 down, when we needed a win at Millwall, and to get the six points over the Easter weekend – they have come out fighting, despite all the injuries and results going against us.

“But somebody’s going to blow up and not win another game and we’ve got to make sure we do what we do.”
