West Germany - 1974

Franz Beckenbauer arrived at the 1974 World Cuo looking to claim one of the only titles to have eluded him in an illustrious career, with the West Germany captain having lost in the 1966 final to England.

Der Kaiser was able to achieve his ambition, and on home soil, as the German side including the likes of Berti Vogts and Gerd Muller beat the much fancied Netherlands in the final of the competition.

West Germany were too strong for Johan Cruyff's side in Munich and, despite the Netherlands taking the lead after only two minutes, the hosts were able to battle back to claim a 2-1 win.
