Argentina - 1986

Football News

Although England fans may beg to differ, few would have begrudged Argentina victory in 1986 due to the magnificence of Diego Maradona for the tournament in Mexico.

El Diego may have used his hand to rile England, but his second goal in the quarter-final was one of the greatest ever seen, and set Argentina on their way to a second World Cup crown in three tournaments.

It was hardly all about Maradona, however, with the Argentina squad also including 1978 winning captain Daniel Passarella and former Real Madrid star Jorge Valdano.
