Arsenal fans seem to be losing patience with Wenger and his inability to spend big to replace stars when they leave.

If you have title winning ambitions as Wenger should then you can’t allow players of Nasri and Fabregas’ class to leave without buying replacements.

After years of this happening the team has declined. Who could argue that players like Olivier Giroud would have got anywhere near the first eleven of the ‘invincibles’.

Personally I believe Giroud is a useful option as an alternative to a player like Van Persie, but is too one dimensional to be Arsenal's first choice striker.

This decline in the team has reached the point where Arsenal are struggling to get into the top four and because of this Wenger has come under pressure. There is an easy way for him to ease this pressure. He needs to spend big this summer.

Goalkeeper

Szceszny has had a poor season and is still too young to be a first choice keeper. While Fabianski has now replaced him results have changed for the better but Fabianski is a keeper who doesn’t exactly instil confidence in his back four. I think Wenger needs to buy an experienced keeper who Szceszny can learn from and so in a couple of years he can take over. This needs to be someone like Victor Valdes, who Arsenal have shown interest in according to reports, seems to be the perfect fit.

Defensive midfielder

The club never really replaced Flamini when he left and although initially Alex Song tried to plug the gap he would often be seen to drop his defensive responsibilities in order to play a more attacking role. This season has seen Mikel Arteta deployed in a deep lying playmaker role but he simply isn’t strong enough to break up attacks all on his own. Jack Wilshere has been brilliant this season but how much better would he be if he had a player behind him so he could be let of the leash more often. Arsenal scouts have been watching Etiene Capoue, according to The Telegraph. Capoue is strong and could be the player to play the defensive role in front of the back four. He has also been known to play at centre-back meaning this versatile Frenchman could be on his way to the Emirates this summer.

Striker

Olivier Giroud has had an up and down first season in the Premier League scoring 10 goals so far. Opinions seem to be divided on the strong Frenchman and the hope is that next season he can recapture the form he had at Montpellier that lead to his £12 million move last summer

Many fans saw him as a direct replacement for Van Persie but they’re very different players. I think it’s too early to judge Giroud’s long term future but Arsenal do need more depth up front. Someone who has a different game to Giroud is needed to challenge him for a starting spot.

Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang has been impressing for Saint-Etienne this year and this may lead to Wenger making a move in the hope of finding a natural goal scorer for his team.

Whatever happens this year it’s hard not to think that this summer may be Wenger’s last chance. With growing pressure and a contract nearing its end, this could really be ‘now or never’ for Arsene Wenger.
