Five of the best: Britannia Stadium goals (1)

The Premier League boasts some of the greatest and most diverse stadia in world football, from the biggest grounds like Old Trafford and the Emirates, to the more spine-tingling atmospheres like at St James' Park.

Up and down the country, there are stadiums - like Anfield - so steeped in history, that the opportunity to visit is a privilege in itself, and that's before a ball has even been kicked.

England's elite clubs have each got something different to offer, whether it's the oldest infrastructure, or newest, state-of-the-art facilities, there's always more to soak up than simply the style of football being played.

In the West Midlands, though, Stoke City's Britannia Stadium is fast becoming one of the best arenas in the Premier League, given recent on-pitch exploits, following a string of spectacular goals - for and against the Potters - over the past couple of seasons.

The oldest club in England's top-flight, and the second oldest professional football club in the world, might be suffering from a dip in form at the moment, but one thing Stoke's home games consistently seem to deliver, is a lesson in first-class finishing.

So, when Manchester United arrived Sunday lunchtime to take on Tony Pulis's relegation strugglers, you could be forgiven for thinking that another headline-grabbing goal was on the horizon, particularly when you consider the strength of Sir Alex Ferguson's forward line.

As it turned out, we couldn't have been more wrong, as Michael Carrick's toe-poked effort from all of six yards, and a Robin van Persie penalty was enough to give the Red Devils all three points, moving them one step closer to a record 20th top-flight title, leaving the Potters hovering perilously close to the dreaded drop zone.

Even after a relatively drab affair, GiveMeFootball thought it as good an opportunity as any to re-live five of the best Britannia Stadium goals.
