Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta believes his own personal success this season will mean nothing if his side fails to win the FA Cup.

Zabaleta has fought off competition from Micah Richards and Maicon to become one of the first names on Roberto Mancini's teamsheet and has garnered a reputation as one of the Premier League's best defenders.

However the Argentinian international has stated that a club of Manchester City's stature have to win at least one trophy every season for it to be deemed a successful campaign.

Speaking to SkySports.com, Zabaleta said: "I have enjoyed the season and being a regular in the team has been fantastic, but it will be even better if we can win the FA Cup.

"A team like City need to keep winning a trophy every year."

The 28-year-old revealed his side's team spirit is high despite the prospect of neighbours Manchester United racing towards their 20th Premier League title.

He added: "We have fantastic players in the team, good names, but also we show a great spirit. We fight for each other.

"We are learning a lot of things. We are a very young group in the sense we haven't been together that long. Also, when we show that spirit and everyone gives everything for each other, Manchester City is a difficult team to beat."

Manchester City host Wigan Athletic at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday before facing Andre Villas-Boas' Tottenham at the weekend.
