Last week, it was announced that the Premier League will use goal-line technology in the 2013/14 season. This will put an end to many debates in pubs around the country over whether it crossed the line, but what were the five biggest goal-line controversies?

1. Frank Lampard | England vs Germany

The 2010 World Cup last 16 tie in South Africa. England's World Cup had been a shambles it's fair to say, and they had been 2-0 down. But Matthew Upson had pulled a goal back and England were on top. The ball drops to Frank Lampard on the edge of the box. A beautiful dipping half-volley that went in off the crossbar, seen by everyone in the entire world, but not the men that mattered most, the linesman and the referee.

2. Luis Garcia | Liverpool vs Chelsea

To this day, no-one really knows if the ball crossed the line or not. But the 'goal' was given, and Liverpool were on their way to beating Chelsea and eventually winning the Champions League, sparking a feud that still remains to this day.

3. Pedro Mendes | Manchester United vs Tottenham

Another awful decision, this time in the Premier League. A dull game was fizzling out to a goalless draw, when Mendes spotted United 'keeper Roy Caroll off his line. An audacious attempt ensued, but not a great one. Seemingly an easy catch for Caroll, the ball slipped through his hands, almost touching the net before he scrambled it clear. So far in it couldn't be missed, could it?

4. Clint Hill | Bolton Wanderers vs QPR

In a battle between two teams fighting to stave off relegation, Hill thought he had given QPR the lead after a powerful header from a corner which Adam Bogdan scrambled out from behind his line, but linesman Bob 'eagle eyed' Pollock assured referee Martin Atkinson he had not, allowing Bolton to go on and win.

5. Andy Carroll | Liverpool vs Chelsea

Another big game, another big decision. Losing 2-0 in the 2012 FA Cup Final, Liverpool introduced Carroll to great effect - smashing in a goal to get them back in the game. Then a bullet header from Carroll was somehow clawed out by Cech, although replays showed it may have just crossed the line.
