Chelsea and Man City target Mario Gomez scored a breath taking hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s 6-1 demolition of Wolfsburg in the German Cup semi-final last night.

Gomez had only been introduced as a 77 minute substitute before opening his account three minutes later and had grabbed the match-ball by the 86 minute.

Amazingly, he only touched the ball six times overall in a 13 minute cameo.

The striker has recently been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City after revealing his frustration of dropping to the bench since the arrival of Mario Mandzukic last summer. The 27-year-old has only been used sparingly this season but still has an impressive goal record of 13 goals in 24 appearances.

Gomez’s agent Uli Ferber recently stated that his client is unhappy at Bayern - fuelling speculation that he could be on his way to the Premier League.

He told reporters: "Naturally, Mario is not happy about his situation.

"It's also clear that it can't stay this way.

"He is behaving well, is loyal and always ready. If the coach puts him on, he has earned it.”

With an international record of 25 goals in 58 games for Germany, the powerful striker is a proven goal scorer and Chelsea are reportedly looking to add a striker who can guarantee goals to their squad.

Although a back-up for Bayern this season, Chelsea and Manchester City could see Gomez as a great signing for someone with such a clinical record.

With City strongly linked with Edinson Cavani, Chelsea appear favourites to sign Gomez in a double swoop on the Bundesliga as they have reportedly agreed terms with international team-mate Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen.
