Extraordinary footage emerged from the Greek Super League over the weekend after AEK Athens fans chased their own team off the pitch.
With the scores tied at 0-0 between struggling AEK and Panthrakikos, disaster struck for AEK when their defender Mavroudis Baugaidis scored an own goal with only three minutes left.
However, in shocking scenes, furious AEK fans vented their anger by chasing the players into the tunnel - causing the match to be abandoned.
The game had already been halted earlier following a smaller-scale pitch invasion as AEK fans became impatient with the efforts of their team, but after the goal, chaos ensued as both sets of players had to run for the dressing rooms.
From the incident, two of the opposition players received facial injuries after getting caught up in the attack and AEK will now face a disciplinary hearing next week.
One of Greece’s most popular teams, AEK have been struggling this season and find themselves only one point above the relegation zone.
Now facing a possible point’s deduction with only one league game left, this could ultimately relegate them for the first time in the club’s 89-year history.
This was not the first incidence of crowd violence to emerge from the weekend.
In a weekend where the game was overshadowed by crowd trouble, a Millwall fan was caught on camera stealing a policeman’s hat during violent scenes in the F.A Cup semi-final defeat to Wigan at Wembley.
An angry Newcastle fan was seen punching a policeman’s horse after their fans took their frustration to the streets after their 3-0 derby defeat to Sunderland.
