Liverpool's managing director Ian Ayre has rejected speculation star striker Luis Suarez is set to leave Anfield during the summer.

The Uruguayan has been frequently linked with moves to European giants Bayern Munich and Juventus this season, but Ayre has banished talk the striker could leave the club.

Ayre has insisted the former Ajax captain will remain at the Reds despite not being able to offer the 26-year-old Champions League football next season.

"To play at the highest level in the Premier League and European soccer, you need players like Luis and Steven Gerrard on your team so the last thing in our mind is selling Luis Suarez," Ayre told Sports Illustrated

"He's not for sale. It's not something we're interested in."

Suarez currently tops the Premier League scoring charts having scored 22 goals for his side, while Manchester United forward Robin van Persie - who has netted 20 goals so far this term - remains his closest rival for the Golden Boot.

Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool will be looking to close the six-point gap on neighbours Everton when they take on former manager Rafael Benitez's Chelsea on Sunday.
