Chelsea set sights on £20m Manchester United target as John Terry replacement

Published 7 Comments

Chelsea have targeted Brazilian defender Dede as a replacement for John Terry, according to reports.

The Daily Express claims Blues scouts have been monitoring the 24-year-old Vasco da Gama star, and are ready to beat the offers of their Premier League rivals to bring the player to Stamford Bridge as the future successor to the current club captain.

Liverpool are willing to offer £15million for the six-cap international, according to the report, whilst Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is also credited with an interest.

Indeed, the Red Devils have been on the trail of the player for some time, with The Daily Mail reporting last month that Ferguson was set to go head-to-head with Benfica in the battle to bring the player to Old Trafford as a potential replacement for Rio Ferdinand.

However, it’s Chelsea who are now at the front of the queue, with Dede potentially joining an already strong Brazilian contingent in west London.

Rafa Benitez has Ramires, David Luiz and Oscar at his disposal, although the manager won’t be there next season if Dede does arrive at Chelsea in the summer.

Terry has just one-year left on his current contract on the King's Road.
