Barcelona midfielder Alex Song would consider a return to Arsenal this summer, according to his cousin Rigobert.

The London Metro reports how the 25-year-old is growing increasingly frustrated at his fringe role at the Nou Camp, after a disappointing debut campaign in La Liga.

Song left the Emirates Stadium in a £17million deal less than 12 months ago, but already has his eye on a move back to north London, if Gunners boss Arsene Wenger would be willing to re-sign him.

"Barcelona put so much effort into signing him last summer, and Alex turned down many great teams in order to sign with them," explained his cousin. "But this season he has only been a substitute. He is not happy.

"At Arsenal he was a leader on and off the field – he doesn't feel like this in Spain and it makes him feel bad."

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in signing the Cameroon international, with Roberto Mancini keen to strengthen his Etihad Stadium squad ahead of the 2013/14 campaign. However, Song has made clear he will only return to England with Arsenal.

Having made just 15 appearances for Tito Vilanova's first-team this season, the African enforcer looks set to leave Barcelona in search of more regular football.
