Edinson Cavani, a reported summer transfer window target for both Chelsea and Manchester City, is looking to leave Napoli for pastures new, according to the mother of the free-scoring Uruguayan striker.

The 26-year-old has frequently been linked with a move away from Napoli, with Chelsea and Manchester City apparently his most likely destinations, having scored 97 goals in 131 appearances for the Italian club since his transfer from Palermo.

Speculaiton about his future has been increasing in recent weeks, and it is now set to intensify after the revelation by his mother that he is ready to leave Naples and secure a high-profile transfer away from the Stadio San Paolo.

"He has told me he wants to go elsewhere and to leave Napoli," Berta Gomez told Uruguayan station Radio Salto.

"Edi doesn't know what will happen yet. Naples is a city that lives for football. The affection of the people is marvellous and I have always told my son, 'You can go anywhere, but nobody will love you like they do at Napoli.'"

Should Chelsea or Manchester City formalise their apparent interest in Cavani, then they will reportedly have to meet his buyout clause of £53 million if they hope to bring the Uruguay international to Stamford Bridge of the Etihad Stadium, respectively.

Real Madrid have also been credited with interest in Cavani, and speculation about his next destination is unlikely to abate as the transfer window edges ever closer.
