Bayern Munich star Javi Martinez thinks his Spain teammate Xavi is the best midfielder in the world, according to Goal.com.
Ahead of Bayern’s first-leg Champions League semi-final tie against Barca at the Allianz Arena next week, Martinez hailed his Spanish colleague as the world’s premier passing midfielder.
The two will go head-to-head in Germany on Tuesday, and Martinez is under no illusions as to the size of the task facing him as he squares up to the diminutive Barca star.
Speaking on Bayern’s official club website, Martinez said: “Xavi is the best midfielder in the world and Barcelona’s engine.
“I expect two great games against Barcelona. The spectators will enjoy it. We want to go to London.”
Barcelona are looking to return to the Champions League final for the first time since it was last at Wembley in 2011.
The Catalan club are hoping to win their fourth European title this century, and Xavi has been at the heart of most of their success.
The match against Bayern Munich will see the runaway leaders of the Spanish and German leagues clash in what promises to be one of the most exciting ties of the tournament so far.
In the other semi-final, Real Madrid take on Borussia Dortmund.
