Ligue 2 club Monaco are reportedly ready to exercise their financial clout this summer as billionaire Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev prepares a transfer window move for Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna.

Monaco are set to return to the French top-flight next season after two campaigns outside of Ligue 1 and, according to the Daily Mail, are considering making an approach for Sagna as his Arsenal future remains in doubt.

Sagna's contract with Arsenal expires at the end of next season, and he recently rejected the opportunity to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium by just one year, which has alerted a number of clubs across Europe.

Arsenal may look to sell Sagna this year rather than risk losing the 30-year-old for nothing in 2014, having done the same with contract rebels Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie in the previous two summer transfer windows.

Monaco are seemingly likely to be contested in their pursuit of the France international by Paris Saint-Germain, and a return to Ligue 1 would appear to be the most likely outcome for Sagna were he to leave Arsenal.

Sagna signed for Arsenal from Auxerre in 2007 for a fee in the region of €9 million, and has played 229 times for the Gunners during almost six years in north London.
