Fulham summer transfers: Ins & outs
Premier League: It promises to be a busy summer at Craven Cottage, where a host of players are expected to arrive and leave
Fulham look set to have a very busy summer according to manager Martin Jol.
The Cottagers currently have a number of players on loan and almost as many running out of contract, with Giorgos Karagounis, Chris Baird, Mark Schwarzer, Mahamadou Diarra and more looking unlikely to re-sign this summer.
The west London outfit will be looking for a new centre-midfielder - maybe even two, one of them would probably be Eyong Enoh or Emmanuel Frimpong, while Fulham fans seem hopeful for the introduction of a creative midfielder.
However, with Jol's preferred line up 4-2-3-1 it looks unlikely that he will bring in a creative midfielder to sit behind Bryan Ruiz and Dimitar Berbatov. Arguably they have enough creativity there without an expensive addition.
Another problem that Fulham have faced this year is a sheer lack of pace on the counter-attack. Everything just seems slow and very patient going forward. Although this seems like a positive it is unbelievably frustrating for Fulham fans.
I think we need a quick striker - although the possibility of using Hugo Rodellega more could work. Fulham have been strongly linked with Darren Bent, who would be a step up from Rodellega, but the price tag, wages and ego have left a lot of Fulham fans feeling pensive about this move.
The other problem with a new striker is: where on earth would he play? In my opinion he would end up being forced wide, with Ruiz in the hole, Berbatov up front and Ashkan Dejagah on the right.
Although of course he would be a very attacking winger - inside forward for those Football Managers out there. Although this seems counter-productive for a player just there to score goals, he would have to be given the freedom to play off the last man should we need a goal.
This would also make Fulham very narrow on the left, allowing John Arne Riise the space to gallop off into the opponents' box.
Now in defence Fulham have already made one signing in Fernando Amorebieta, who looks like a brilliant signing, and with Matthew Briggs on the left as back up to Riise, it seems all that would be needed is a bit of support on the right - assuming that Fulham are taking up their buy clause on Sascha Riether.
Fulham attempted to buy Danny Simpson last season; however, I would ideally like to see some of Fulham's very highly rated youngster come up to take these kind of reserve positions.
The goalkeeping position is one of the hardest to narrow down at Fulham. I do not know who will be in goal for us next year, but I am sure that be it Asmir Begovic, Schwarzer, David Stockdale, Anders Lindegaard, Neil Etheridge or Sinan Bolat they will have a top quality back-line and two solid central midfielders in front of them.
What I would realistically like to see...
Darren Bent (or similar signing)
This would cost around £15-18m for all of the players, therefore with no saleable assets really in the team at the moment, it could be a pipe dream for Fulham fans.
But I would like the look of that team; it has goals in it.
