In the Premier League it is often the top goal scorers that compete for the top four positions and this season has been no different this season.

Manchester United top both the league and the goal scorers list too with a total of 73 goals.

Although the strikers are the main ones to score the goals for the side, the midfielders and the defenders can often contribute to goals as well.

For table-toppers United, 42 of their 73 goals have come from their strikers, most of them coming from Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, but their midfielders have contributed 16 and their defenders have contributed 12.

Despite the impressive tally, United do not have the highest scoring defence, it is in fact Chelsea that do. They have a total of 14 goals coming from their defenders helped by both John Terry and David Luiz who scored on Wednesday evening against Fulham.

Chelsea also can boast the highest-scoring midfielders as well with the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Frank Lampard contributing to 38 goals from the midfield men. The Blues are unfortunately let down by their strikers though as they have only struck 10 times.
