Crystal Palace boss urges team to hang on to play-off place
Crystal Palace news: Ian Holloway says his team has to grind out more results if they are to secure a play-off place
Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has challenged his players to keep focus in the final games of the season to ensure that Palace finish in the play-off places.
Palace boss Holloway will be hoping that his team can finish the season as they started it, but recent form has been against them of late. Three consecutive losses against Brighton, Birmingham and Blackpool in March/April meant Palace fell out of contention for an automatic promotion place, but Holloway hopes his players have enough left for one final push.
Palace could only manage a 2-2 draw against Leicester on Saturday, which meant that the Eagles missed out on the chance to pull away from Bolton, Leicester and Nottingham Forest who are on 66, 65 and 64 points respectively.
The table has become congested in and around the play-off places and Holloway knows that now is the time to try and grind out results.
Holloway has also pointed out the unpredictable nature of the league this season, with mid-tabled teams closer to the relegation zone than the play-off places.
Speaking to reporters, Holloway said: "It wasn't a pretty affair but at this stage of the season it isn't about that. It's about the mind-set. If we had won 10 in a row we would have been happy but now in this position, because we have been in the play-off frame for some time, people are disappointed.
"It's been a roller-coaster and there is a lot of talk about who we are competing with for the play-offs but we just have to get on with it.”
