Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand took to Facebook to celebrate their latest Premier League triumph this morning (Tuesday).
The Red Devils secured a 20th English league title and 13th under Sir Alex Ferguson with victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford last night, with a Robin Van Persie hat-trick proving to be the difference between the two sides.
With local rivals Manchester City now 16 points behind with just five games remaining, Roberto Mancini’s side are unable to catch the leaders, and it’s a special feeling for both United players.
Rooney wrote on Facebook: “Feels so good to be waking up as the new Premier League Champions. Incredible effort by the team. It's what we've worked all year for! 20!”
Ferdinand added on his official Facebook page: “Morning Facebookers! Love waking up as a Premier League Champion! We took the roof off last night!”
During a season of mixed fortunes for Rooney, he's claimed his fifth Premier League title and scored 16 goals in all competitions ahead of matches against Arsenal, Chelsea, Swansea and West Bromwich Albion to end the campaign.
Ferdinand, meanwhile, claimed his sixth crown with Manchester United since completing a £30milion from Leeds United back in 2002, and Ferguson wants the 34-year-old to sign a new contract, which will keep him at the club for at least another year.
