Tottenham fans celebrated their side's U-21 win over Arsenal last night in a bizarre fashion - collectively holding their shoes aloft while chanting "Shoes off, if you love Tottenham'.

Nabil Bentaleb's strike early on in the second half helped Spurs to a 1-0 win over rivals Arsenal in what was billed as the 'mini derby' - a result that kept the them at the top of the Premier League U21 Stage 2 table.

Bentaleb's goal, which came just 12 seconds into the second-half, sparked crazy celebrations among the 1,000-strong Spurs supporters at Barnet's Underhill stadium, and led by a supports group known as #1882thfc fans held aloft their shoes and created a fiery atmosphere to help their side move to within one win of winning the title.

The victory came little more than 24 hours after Spurs' senior side had claimed a vital 3-1 win over Manchester City which helped put their push for Champions League qualification back on track.

The Citizens took the lead early on through former Arsenal star Samir Nasri, but three goals in the space of seven second-half minutes from Clint Dempsey, Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale helped move Spurs to within two points of Arsenal with a game in hand.

Bale, who returned from an ankle injury picked up two weeks ago to drive Tottenham on to victory at White Hart Lane, rounded off a succesful week on and off the pitch by picking up nominations for the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year awards.

The Welshman said he was flattered to be put forward for the gongs by his fellow professionals.

"It's massive. It's great for your peers to vote for you," he said. "Hopefully I do win. To be nominated is fantastic and fingers crossed (I do win)."

Andre Villas-Boas's side will have the chance to move up to third if they beat Wigan on Saturday, with both Arsenal and Chelsea not in action until Sunday.
