Manchester United’s Michael Carrick has stated that he believes every Premier League title win is more special than the last.
Carrick was speaking after the Red Devils clinched a 20th League title and a 13th of the Premier League era with a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.
United have wrapped up the title with four games still to be played and will now actively pursue Chelsea’s record of highest points tally in a 38 game season.
They will also have a direct say in the battle for the Premier League’s third and fourth positions as United are scheduled to play both Arsenal (away) and Chelsea (home).
This was Carrick’s fifth Premier League title with Manchester United and Carrick insists winning is a feeling he will never grow tired of. Robin van Persie who has now won his first Premier League trophy sealed Manchester United’s title via a superb hat trick.
Carrick stated that after last season’s disappointment this years’ victory tastes even better as it came at the expense of cross- city rivals Manchester City.
The PFA Player of the Year nominee also stated that the current Manchester United squad had proven any doubters wrong.
“It is an incredible achievement. Every year we win it just gets more special. The sense of achievement gets greater, for the manager and the club," he told PA Sport and the Manchester Evening News.
"This was a special one this year, the way we ended last year. We could have gone two ways and let it affect us and faded away. But we bounced back. We are proud of all the lads for showing their character.”
"We were written off at the start of the season, as we are most seasons, but we have managed to come out on top. It is a special feeling."
