Chelsea believe they will win the race to sign Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao in the summer transfer window, it has been claimed, with the Colombian also reportedly being pursued by Manchester City and Manchester United.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have opted to focus their attention on claiming the signature of Falcao over Napoli's Edinson Cavani, and are confident of completing a £46 million deal for the player when the transfer window opens.
Talks between Chelsea and the representatives of Falcao are reported to have been ongoing for a number of months and, it would appear, 27-year-old is set to complete a move to Stamford Bridge in time for next season.
Falcao's transfer to Chelsea has been touted for some time, and his destruction of the Blues in the Super Cup last year - during which he scored a hat-trick - is likely to have intensified the interest of the club's owner Roman Abramovich.
The Colombia international, who joined Atletico Madrid from Porto in 2011, has also been mentioned as a transfer target for Manchester City and Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson reported to have sent his chief scout to watch Falcao.
Ferguson, however, has denied that Manchester United are considering a part-exchange deal involving Javier Hernandez, although rumours persist that the Premier League champions are monitoring Atleti star.
Chelsea, though, look set to fight off competition from their rivals and sign the highly-rated forward, who has scored 67 goals in 85 appearances since joining Atletico Madrid.
