Barcelona have had a season of mixed fortunes: they may win La Liga with the biggest margin in recent memory but their performances in Europe have been pretty shaky and they have almost certainly lost the semi-final to Bayern Munich after suffering a heavy defeat at the Allianz Arena.
Here we look at some of the possible departures in the summer which will give us a clear indication of what they need to do in the transfer market.
It was a surprise to many when Valdes announced that he was not willing to stay on at Barcelona. The goalkeeper has been a constant in multiple league and European victories for the Catalan side. Barcelona will be eager to replace the Spanish international with someone of similar ilk.
The Alex Song move didn’t pan out quite as Barcelona had planned, with the Cameroon international failing to make any sort of impact for the club. There will be many takers for the Cameroon international and Barcelona would be able to get rid of him without making a major loss.
The Chilean has also failed to make the sort of impact after his big-money transfer from Udinese, and the player is often accused of going missing in big games. Chelsea are reportedly monitoring the situation and could swoop for him in the summer.
David Villa, like many other strikers, has found it difficult to be part of the Barcelona setup because the team plays with Lionel Messi as the focal point.
This limits the opportunity for other players to score goals and hence Villa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have not been as prolific at Barcelona as in other clubs they have played. The Spanish striker should look to move on at a club where he is first choice to resurrect his international career.
