Manchester United's stars, inadvertently or not, rubbed their title triumph in the face of Manchester City in the early hours of Tuesday morning as they hopped into a taxi branded with the logo of their rivals.
Having just thrashed Aston Villa 3-0 at Old Trafford to seal a historic 20th title win, and wrest the Premier League trophy back from City, Sir Alex Ferguson allowed his players to paint the town red in celebration.
Things turned blue, however, at around 2am as Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Anderson piled into a cab on their way to a nightclub, with the vehicle in question covered in Manchester City branding.
The driver of the taxi, Derek Izzit, is a lifelong supporter of Manchester City and has a hunch the Manchester United trio were making a deliberate attempt to gloat about their Premier League success.
"It’s the only one in the city decked out in sky blue," he told The Sun.
"Maybe they were taking the mick — or in a rush."
Manchester United's players partied until 5.45am following Robin van Persie's stunning hat-trick against Villa, with Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra even turning barmen in one particular drinking establishment.
