Liverpool ambassador Ian Rush – who is in Australia showcasing their pre-season friendly with Melbourne Victory – is confident that Luis Suarez will stay in Merseyside next season.
The Welsh legend is the Anfield club’s record goalscorer, and is understood to be a massive fan of the current number 7.
“He’s a fantastic player and I am sure he will be here on the tour,” he said.
Suarez has averaged more than a goal every two games since joining from Ajax, but the striker has also had his fair share of unsavoury incidents since coming to the Premier League in 2011.
Liverpool’s proposed tour of Australia has been met with much excitement Down Under, and Rush was delighted with how rapidly tickets had been snapped up.
“The match pretty much sold out in a few hours which just underlines the pulling power of Liverpool across the world,” he claimed.
“Juventus played over here recently and there were only 30 or 40,000 at that match – to sell out a stadium this size so quickly is incredible.”
However, it remains to be seen whether Suarez will be making the trip, amid intense speculation about his future.
The Uruguayan was heavily fined following Sunday’s bite incident, and has since been banned for 10 matches by the Football Association.
