Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a potentially decisive blow in their pursuit of Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao.
Reports in Italy claim the forward is on the verge of signing for Napoli, with the Serie ‘A’ side agreeing a fee in the region of £16million for the player.
Spurs have been tracking the player for some time, according to talkSPORT, with the radio station claiming previous manager Harry Redknapp and current boss Andre Villas-Boas both tried to lure the player to White Hart Lane.
Indeed, the report goes on to claim that Tottenham Hotspur were in negotiations with Internacional on deadline day during the January transfer window, but were unable to conclude a deal.
And, Villas-Boas was ready to move again for the player at the end of the season, according to the report, as the former Porto chief considers his attacking options in north London.
Spurs only have two senior strikers available, with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor available to ‘AVB’.
Damiao would have added an extra attacking dimension to the Tottenham Hotspur line-up, but they now appear set to miss out on the 23-year-old.
