Fiorentina have reportedly identified Chelsea striker Fernando Torres as a potential replacement for Stevan Jovetic if, as expected, the Arsenal and Manchester City target leaves Florence during the summer transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, Fiorentina anticipate Jovetic will become either an Arsenal or Manchester City player before August's transfer deadline, and consider Torres as a possible successor to the Montenegrin.
Fiorentina are already reported to have approached Chelsea to express an interest in bringing Torres to the Stadio Artemio Franchi, with the Spaniard's position at Stamford Bridge surrounded by uncertainty.
Chelsea, it is claimed, are set to complete the signing of Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid for a fee of £46 million, which will place Torres further down the pecking order and raise more questions about his future with the Blues.
It would appear possible, then, that Chelsea would consider selling the 29-year-old to Fiorentina, and a move for Torres could be funded by the transfer fee recouped on the sale of Jovetic to either Arsenal or Manchester City.
Manchester City would seem to be favourites to sign Jovetic given their financial clout and assure position in the Champions League for next season, with Arsenal's interest in the 23-year-old reportedly hinging on them finishing in the top four this term.
Arsenal are currently in third place in the Premier League, only two points above rivals Tottenham in fifth, while Spurs retain a game in hand on Arsene Wenger's side.
