£20m Chelsea & Tottenham target set to leave Portugal this summer
Chelsea transfer news: Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur
The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to England for a number of years, but now looks set to finally leave Portugal after holding talks with the club about his future.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has been credited with an interest in bringing the former Sporting Lisbon star to White Hart Lane, and came close to signing him on transfer deadline day last summer.
Villas-Boas knows Moutinho well from his time in charge at Estadio do Dragao, but could face competition for his signature from former employers Chelsea, who are also looking to strengthen their midfield department, and are believed to be favourites to sign him.
Roman Abramovich might not yet have a permanent manager lined up to take over from interim head coach Rafa Benitez, but it seems as though plans are already in place to recruit a number of players for the Blues successor.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola is reporting that Moutinho has made clear his intention to leave the Primera Liga club at the end of the season, and Porto owner Pinta da Costa has admitted he's facing a losing battle to keep a player that has been rated at £20million, despite turning down numerous bids in the past.
"It is hard to resist," said Da Costa. "We know that there are clubs with millionaires who have no limitations [in terms of] money, [such] as Chelsea and PSG."
Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco have both been mooted as admirers of Moutinho, but his heart seems set on the Premier League, with Chelsea and Tottenham set to battle it out for the midfielder's services.
