Many teams entertain us season in, season out and this Premier League campaign has seen no exception, with even bottom-based sides playing entertaining football at times. Football is based on winning, which comes through “steel and quality”, however fans watch football because of the entertainment.
This is my opinion of the top five most entertaining sides of the Premier League this season.
Arsenal’s reign in this department has come to a conclusive end on the fact that their rhythm has been broken due to the departure of their best players.
However, Arsenal are still one of the best counter-attacking sides, and with Jack Wilshere pulling the strings, there is always bound to be entertainment.
They formerly played “beautiful without bite”, but over the past few weeks, they have shown a different sign which has got them over the line.
4. Swansea City
Michael Laudrup has added a little more bite into Swansea City’s game this season, compromising the entertainment they have to offer.
It’s given them slightly better results, but there are still times when Swansea can run the opposition ragged.
Having gone off the boil slightly since their League Cup victory, the Swans have enjoyed a successful season and still capture a desirable image of football with their beautiful, slick passing and quick counter-attacks.
Every other year, Chelsea would have been last in this category. The addition of Oscar and Eden Hazard, combined with Juan Mata and sometimes Fernando Torres has made Chelsea one of the most entertaining teams in the country.
They may have taken a while, but Mata’s clever passing combined with Hazard’s skill is frightening for any defender, as well as their telepathic football. There is no doubt, in the years to come, that Chelsea will reach the top of this list, regardless of the manager.
2. Manchester United
Many say the champions have a weaker team than their glory days in the past, but there has been a clinical outlook to their side. Although they struggled at the beginning of the season, scoring late goals (which is entertaining for any viewer), United have scored some of the best team goals of the season.
Their attacking fullbacks have added to their skill department this season, and even Rio Ferdinand has occasionally joined in the fun. Ryan Giggs and Robin van Persie have exchanged some creative work, while the addition Shinji Kagawa has seen them occasionally attempt ‘eye of the needle stuff’.
To mention, this hasn’t been their most fluent philosophy, but there is no wanting if you look at the results, which have yielded excellent results and entertaining games, such as the Newcastle dogfight in Old Trafford and the come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Villa.
Tottenham have the fastest wingers in the country, one of the most creative midfields and probably the most skilful defender in Jan Vertonghen. Gareth Bale has been brilliant in Spur’s build-up this season, with his exotic range of passing leading to some fabulous team goals.
Tottenham have rarely failed to put up a show, with their high-quality counter-attacks the main philosophy of their impressive football. It takes something to stop them when they’re in top gear, even impossible as both Manchester clubs have experienced this season.
Spurs possess incredible speed quality which has seen them run ragged, and have been by far, the most entertaining team of the season.
