Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has told his team mates to forget about the returning Robin van Persie as the team prepare to face champions Manchester United on Sunday.
When the sides meet at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, it will be the first time the Dutch striker has returned since he left the club in the summer for a fee estimated around £24million and he is expected to get a rough reception from the home fans.
Despite a lot of the pre-match talk being built around Van Persie, Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal insists that the side must not focus all their attention on the Dutchman as the side have a lot more threats.
“Teams like Manchester United don’t just have gifted wingers, they have a squad with a lot of depth,” the Spanish international told Arsenal Player.
“Their players are of the highest level, you can’t just focus on one player because their team is full of players who can create and score.
“We must be on our guard and be aware of certain key players, like Robin, who has scored a sack of goals this year and is playing well. He is one of their main threats.”
Arsenal vs Manchester United is one of the games Monreal was most looking forward too as he made the move to the Premier League and he believes his side can earn all three points on Sunday.
“I have been excited about it since I got here,” he said.
“I asked Santi 'which of our rivals do we still have to play - Chelsea, Man United?' and he told me that we had Manchester United towards the end of the season.
“They are one of the biggest teams in England and they’re having an exceptional season. It's one of those games every player wants to be involved in, but there are three points at stake and that is what we are aiming for.
“They may be a very strong opponent, but we are also a very good team and can win the match.”
