Arsenal have began talks to sign Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic, according to reports.

The Fiorentina striker is said to be one of the club's top transfer targets this summer and Arsene Wenger has looked to get a head-start on that by opening talks with the Italian club.

The Gunners boss is rightly keen to step up his interest in the Fiorentina forward as there are rumours of interest from clubs around the world. Manchester City and Juventus also seem interested in getting the youngster's signature.

With the north London side reportedly having a £70 million kitty to spend and Fiorentina's Jovetic rated at £25m, he could begin a summer spending spree for the Gunners.

The club is also in search of a goalkeeper, in case Lukasz Fabianski makes his exit this summer. Plus, it'll do Wojciech Szczesny some good to have immense competition for his spot. Some prospects for Wenger include Stoke City's Asmir Begovic, Sunderland's Simon Mignolet, and Hamburg's Rene Adler. Compared to the double-digit fees of the former two, Rene Adler's £8 million transfer fee seems a better option for Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal will need to dig deeper and find a way to strengthen their squad in order to compete on a better level than they have done these past few years.

However, the first priority for Wenger will be to secure Champions League football for his side as they currently lie in third place in the Premier League, however have played a game more than their rivals.
