Manchester City & Manchester United to miss out on £25m Argentine star
Manchester City & Manchester United transfer news: Erik Lamela to sign new Roma contract
Manchester City and Manchester United will reportedly be snubbed by Erik Lamela during the summer transfer window, with the young Argentina set to commit his future to Roma by signing a new long-term contract.
According to Goal.com, both Manchester City and Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of the £25 million-rated midfielder, but he is a poised to reject them both in favour of a stay at the Stadio Olimpico.
Lamela is ready to put pen to paper an improved five-year contract, which will expire in 2018 and earn the 21-year-old £50,000-a-week over its duration, despite both Manchester clubs reported to have enquired about his availability.
The youngster has scored 14 goals from attacking midfield, either behind the striker or out wide, this season and his potent form had led to suggestions he could move to either the Etihad Stadium or Old Trafford in the transfer window.
Manchester United's pursuit of midfield reinforcements has been well-documented, particularly given the likelihood that Paul Scholes will end his playing days for the second time come the conclusion of the season.
The 38-year-old initially retired following Manchester United's defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final of 2011, only to return to action for the Red Devils in the following January.
