Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has remarkably claimed his team must be willing to die on the pitch if they hope to overturn the deficit to Borussia Dortmund.

The Spanish number one has worried some Los Blancos fans by insisting Tuesday's second leg is more important than this weekend's derby against Atletico Madrid.

"We have to fully understand the situation, as should our fans. They must understand how important this game is and how important it is for them to be heard," he explained.

"It's even more important than the derby in the next round of the championship. We must die on the field, because there is a final at Wembley at stake."

Despite fans concerns over the statement from the currently benched skipper in a press conference, Casillas has reassured fans he understands the importance of the derby to the fans.

"Of course, the derby is important," the Spain international acknowledged. "Atletico have not won one for 14 years, but against Dortmund, I repeat, it's the most important match of the season."

There has been a lot said about the keeper's relationship with his boss in recent weeks, but he has made it clear their relationship doesn't affect the clubs performances.

"From the professional point of view, there is a lot of respect for Mourinho," the World Cup winner insisted. "And like Xabi Alonso has said, the teams comes first."

Anything but a win in Saturday's derby would crown Barcelona as the new La Liga champions.

Mourinho's men have a real balancing act on their hands, in what could be a very tough week for the Real Madrid faithful.
