Not only did we see Borussia Dortmund outclass Real Madrid on the pitch, they also showed the rest of the footballing world how fans should support their team.
The Westfalenstadion is known worldwide for it's great atmosphere and seeing it at it's full capacity is quite a sight for many footballers and football fans.
Not only did they cheer for 90 minutes non-stop which is something very rare, especially over here in England, they also showed fantastic support to one of their players that will be leaving the club in the summer for fierce-rivals Bayern Munich.
Just a few days before the Champions League tie with Real Madrid, it was made public knowledge that Gotze was going to move to Munich in the summer for a record fee for a German player and following the news, there was a lot of speculation to whether or not the German would feature in the game.
Not only did Gotze play the match, he was cheered all throughout the game every time he was on the ball and after everything he did.
This shows how passionate the Dortmund fans are and it also shows the difference between overseas fans and English football fans. I couldn't imagine how the English fans would react if a player was leaving their club for their rivals.
On Sunday Robin van Persie will return to the Emirates Stadium and it’s hard to see him getting any cheers from the home fans.
Things may be different once Gotze joins Munich and comes up against Dortmund, but for them to continue to support the player whilst he still plays for their team is a show of great support and great respect between a player and the fans.
The support from Dortmund was truly amazing and seeing the players thank them after the game by bowing in front of them all was a great sight.
A great club with the best fans in the footballing world.
