Morgan Schneiderlin is eager for Southampton to beat West Brom at St. Mary’s after they were convincingly seen off at the Hawthorns in November.

The midfielder was part of the Saints side expertly dispatched by Steve Clarke’s men earlier in the campaign, but a lot has changed on the south coast since then.

A resounding defeat left Nigel Adkins’ newly-promoted team anchored at the bottom of the Premier League table – but they are now just three points off the top half.

Frenchman Schneiderlin told the official Southampton website: “They beat us 2-0 earlier in the season, and there was no dispute – they played a lot better than us that night.”

“We had a nightmare, and I had a nightmare myself. It was a very low point,” he admitted.

The 23-year-old – who has already played over 150 games for the club – claimed a lack of leadership before Christmas was partly responsible for the slump they found themselves in.

“At the start of the season we didn’t have anyone saying ‘we need to do this’ at certain points of the game,” he revealed.

“We’ve always worked for each other but now, if a players isn’t in a game for some reason, we make sure we tell him.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s controversial arrival seems to have given the Saints a much-needed lift, and they are now unbeaten in six Premier League matches.

Winnable games against Sunderland and Stoke City combined with momentum they gained in recent weeks might just be enough to secure a top-ten finish.
