David Beckham is the richest sports star in Britain, according to the 2013 Sunday Times Rich List which was revealed today.

The Paris-Saint Germain midfielder is worth £165 million according to the list, ahead of Wigan chairman Dave Whelan who comes home in 2nd place with a reported worth of £160 million.

The list also names Wayne Rooney as the richest Premier League player with a worth of £51 million – but he’s down in 15th place behind the likes of former boxer Lennox Lewis and Formula 1 stars past and present in Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Eddie Irvine and David Coulthard.

Rooney’s Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand is the next footballer in the list with a reported worth of £42 million thanks not only to his lucrative football career but also sidelines including his #5 clothing range.

Overall six Manchester United players are on the list, including Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick and Robin van Persie.

In the top 100 richest sports stars in Britain there are 24 current Premier League players with Michael Owen 3rd amongst footballers.

Chelsea stars Frank Lampard and John Terry also make it into the top 50, as does Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, whose worth of £33m puts his in 30th place overall, and former Liverpool star Fernando Torres, now with Chelsea.

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini just about sneaks into the top 50 with £21 million to his name, below Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger (£29m) and Sir Alex Ferguson (£34m)

Tottenham’s only entry on the list, other than former boss Harry Redknapp, is Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, a new entry, with £12 million to his name.
