Manchester City, notorious for their huge spending power, have justified their reputation in recent years, breaking the bank to sign the likes of Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Touré, and David Silva to name a few.
However, last summer their spending was more moderate in comparison as they spent just over £50m on players like defensive revelation Matija Nastisic.
Now, though, City are set to spend big again with Edinson Cavani topping a shopping list, which also includes Stephan El Shaarawy and Brazilian Marquinhos, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
Manager Roberto Mancini is understood to be keen on the AC Milan forward El Shaarawy, as the Italian has captured the eye of City’s scouts in various performances during his run of scoring 16 league goals this term.
Another target for last season’s champions is Uruguay international Cavani. The Napoli hit-man has 23 league goals to his name, and has been tracked by many of Europe’s elite for a few years now, and has been heavily linked with Arsenal as they look to firepower an attempt to end their eight-year wait for a trophy.
AS Roma defender Marquinhos is still only 18 year of age, and is already a regular at the heart of one of Italy’s best club's defences. City have already had success buying teenage defensive talent from Italy in Nastasic, which may encourage them to take a gamble on this long-term investment.
Do you think that City should spend heavily again this summer?
