Sami Khedira has said the Real Madrid supporters could play a vital role in overturning the 4-1 deficit left after Wednesday’s shock annihilation in Dortmund.
Los Blancos are unbeaten in their last 40 matches at the Bernabeu and Khedira is confident that record can be prolonged with the home fans behind the team.
“The home crowd’s support is crucial in these matches and it can be a decisive factor,” he told the official Real Madrid website. “I am convinced that the Madrid supporters will give us wings in this match too.”
Jose Mourinho’s men were taken apart by Borussia Dortmund last week, and will know they must score at least three times to have any chance of playing in the final at Wembley in May.
Few expect Madrid to progress after being convincingly outplayed at the Westfalenstadion, but Khedira remains optimistic of repairing the damage done in Germany.
“We feel even more confident in front of our own fans,” he said. “It is a great feeling to play knowing that your supporters are right behind you, we feel right at home when we are playing here. I am certain that on Tuesday we will play a great match.”
A lot will depends on the performance of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward has scored a total of 51 goals this season – with 12 of those coming in the Champions League.
Khedira said of his teammate: “He is a great professional. We are going to need his goals more than ever on Tuesday.”
Ronaldo scored Real Madrid’s goal last week and you can almost guarantee that if the Spanish champions do overcome Dortmund, their number seven would have played a huge part.
