€40m Manchester United target rules out summer transfer

Published 1 Comments

Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal has outlined his commitment to the Italian champions-elect, outlining his intention to stay in Turin amid suggestions Manchester United could bid for the Chilean in the summer transfer window.

According to talkSPORT, Vidal is a target for Manchester United with the transfer window less almost two months away, although the Red Devils would appear unlikely to capture the signature of the 25-year-old.

"I am happy in Turin and with Juventus," Vidal told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I will stay here next season and (try to) win everything. I always aspire to improve as a player and here I have the confidence of the club and coach."

Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to be on the lookout for midfield reinforcements, and had been credited with an interest in €40 million-rated Vidal, but may have to lookout elsewhere in his pursuit of summer recruits.

Manchester United are already reported to have made an approach for Nemanja Matic of Benfica as Ferguson scours the market for possible acquisitions, with the long-term future of Paul Scholes still unclear.

Scholes is out of contract at the end of the summer, and Ferguson says he expects the Old Trafford legend to stay with Manchester United - but that could be as a coach rather than a player.

The 38-year-old initially retired following the defeat to Barcelona in the 2011 Champions League final, before returning to action the following January after an SOS call from the Manchester United boss.
