David Villa is looking to force through a move away from Barcelona – but has missed the chance to join Arsenal, according to reports.

The Daily Mirror claims Villa is eager to move away from the Nou Camp and rescue his World Cup chances, with the 31-year-old far from certain to be involved in Brazil next year.

A lack of first-term opportunities for the former Valencia star led to speculation over a move away from Catalonia in January, with both the Gunners and Manchester City keen on the striker.

However, Barca boss Tito Vilanova rejected the Premier League advances, despite his bit-part role with the La Liga leaders.

His situation has remained relatively unchanged, and now Villa ‘wants assurances’ over his involvement in the first team next season, according to the report.

If the news is bad for the striker, a move to Arsenal is no longer on the cards however, with Arsene Wenger setting his transfer sights elsewhere.

Indeed, the paper goes on to claim the Gunners chief is now eager to bring Stevan Jovetic to the Emirates Stadium, with the Fiorentina star his number one transfer target.
