Despite impressive performances from young goalkeeper David de Gea, this has not stopped rumours suggesting that Sir Alex Ferguson is in the hunt for another 'keeper to challenge the Spaniard - and he has identified Stoke City's Asmir Begovic as the ideal signing.

With Begovic closing in on a summer move to Manchester United, reports linking the player with the move have suggested that Anders Lindegaard is now set to leave Old Trafford because he knows that the Bosnian’s arrival could happen this summer.

According to the Daily Star, Lindegaard does not want to be a third-string goalkeeper as it is clear that he will not be able to get past Begovic and is now firmly the second-choice 'keeper behind De Gea.

It would be premature and disrespectful to Begovic when suggesting that he too will play a similar role to Lindegaard, and I expect the Potters' goalkeeper to really challenge De Gea for the number one jersey as he has easily been Stoke’s best player for the season.

A lot will be expected of Begovic as he will be moving to Old Trafford and joining the newly-crowned champions; however, it remains unclear whether he would want to swap regular first-team football for a spell on the bench at Manchester United.

However, with Jack Butland set to come in to Stoke for the new season, Begovic could face a similar situation at both teams, so the decision would ultimately fall on his own shoulders, but a move to Manchester United would see him challenge for major honours.

But for Lindegaard, an exit is imminent, with Fulham, Newcastle United and Liverpool all interested in the Dane.

What do you Manchester United fans think? Do you want to see Begovic in a Manchester United jersey next season?
