A single injury is sometimes enough to turn the tables on a legend.

It's hard to believe that Iker Casillas, arguably one of the best in the business of goalkeeping, is now finding it difficult to get a match under his belt.

The Jose Mourinho-Casillas conflict combined with the desperate clearance attempt of Álvaro Arbeloa have been the highlights of the disaster story for the Real Madrid captain this year.

The compensatory signing of Diego Lopez paid off for Los Blancos as he guarded the Real Madrid posts in a sensational manner. Some stunning performances from Lopez, plus bad performances from Iker during the early stages of the season and then the injury means the five-time FIFA World Best Goalkeeper is set to miss yet another important match for the Bernabeu giants.

With Lopez not performing at his best any longer, many expected Casillas to get a start in one of the past games - most recently the Madrid derby against Atletico. It would have been the ideal match to play Casillas but, because of his rift with Mourinho, fans should not be optimistic about his chances.

It would be hard to justify replacing Lopez so soon after his splendid performances, but these are the margins when you have a goalkeeper like Casillas on bench.

Xabi Alonso has found it a little hard performing the role of captain and a playmaker simultaneously. 4-1 down in the Champions League semi-finals to Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid find themselves in deep trouble - and who would be better to look up to than their long-standing captain Casillas.

The Spaniard has definitely got the nerve to perform in high-pressure games. The re-entry of the legend might just be the sufficient boost for Real Madrid to register a memorable comeback.

But will Mourinho be willing to put aside their rift and take the big risk? Only time will tell.
